Who We Are

ExcelCoach AI ("we", "us", "our") is an AI-powered Excel learning platform. We help beginners, job seekers, and professionals learn Excel through AI-assisted tutoring, formula guidance, and career tools.

What Information We Collect

Information you give us directly:

• Your first name and email address when you sign up for free access
• Payment information when you purchase a paid plan (processed securely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details)
• Questions and content you type into the AI assistant
• Files you upload for data cleaning or portfolio building (processed in your browser — not stored on our servers)

Information collected automatically:

• Usage data such as pages visited and features used (via Netlify analytics, anonymised)
• Your approximate location (country/region level only, for service improvement)
• Browser type and device information for technical support

What we do NOT collect:

• We do not collect government IDs, passport numbers, or financial account details
• We do not collect data from children under 13
• We do not track you across other websites

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and improve the ExcelCoach AI service
• Send you weekly Excel tips and resources (only if you opted in — unsubscribe anytime)
• Process payments and manage your subscription
• Respond to your support requests
• Protect against fraud and abuse

We do NOT use your data to train AI models. Your questions and inputs are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate responses but are not retained by us for training purposes. Please review Anthropic's privacy policy for details on how they handle API data.

Data Storage & Security

Your account preferences and session data are stored locally in your browser using localStorage. This means your data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly take an action (like signing up or asking a question).

Uploaded files (Excel/CSV) for data cleaning or portfolio building are processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript — they are never sent to or stored on our servers.

Email addresses collected through signup forms are stored securely with Brevo (our email marketing provider). We use industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS) for all data.

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We share data only with trusted service providers who help us operate the platform:

• Anthropic — AI response generation (your questions are sent to their API)
• Stripe — Payment processing (they handle all card data under PCI-DSS compliance)
• Brevo — Email marketing and communication
• Netlify — Website hosting and serverless functions

Each of these providers has their own privacy policy and we encourage you to review them.

Cookies & Local Storage

We use browser localStorage (not cookies) to remember:

• Whether you have signed up (to unlock your 5 free daily questions)
• Your daily question count and reset date
• Your API key if you choose to enter one directly
• Your paid plan status

You can clear this at any time by clearing your browser's site data. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Opt out of marketing emails at any time (every email has an unsubscribe link)
• Data portability — receive a copy of your data in a common format

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@excelcoach.ai and we will respond within 30 days.

Data Retention

We retain your email address and name for as long as you are subscribed to our mailing list. If you request deletion, we will remove your data within 30 days. Payment records are retained as required by financial regulations (typically 7 years).

Children's Privacy

ExcelCoach AI is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify subscribers by email of any significant changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
